Crack Filling & Repair, done right for Georgetown ground and heat
Every asphalt surface in Williamson County cracks eventually. The ground under it moves, the sun stiffens it, and the pavement gives at its weakest line. What happens next is the owner's choice. A sealed crack is a cosmetic issue. An open crack is a drain that feeds water straight into the base, and a wet base is how a small crack turns into a pothole and then into a patch.
TXST Paving Company fills and seals cracks in driveways, parking lots and private roads across Georgetown, Round Rock, Hutto and the surrounding area using hot pour rubberized sealant. It is the least expensive work we do and, dollar for dollar, the most effective. This page explains how cracks form here, what proper crack sealing involves, and how to tell when a crack is past filling.

Crack Filling & Repair in Georgetown, explained
How Cracks Start in Georgetown Pavement
Cracks tell you what is wrong underneath. Around Georgetown we see five kinds most often.
02What Crack Filling and Repair Includes
Routing
For cracks that are working, meaning they open and close with the seasons, we route them first. A routing machine cuts a clean reservoir roughly half an inch to three quarters of an inch wide and deep along the crack. That gives the sealant a consistent shape with enough material to stretch when the crack opens in August instead of tearing. Hairline and non-working cracks are cleaned and sealed without routing.
Cleaning
Every crack is blown out with compressed air, and on damp or weedy cracks we use a heat lance to dry the walls and burn out roots. Sealant bonds to clean, dry asphalt. Sealant poured into a dirty crack is sealant that falls out.
Hot Pour Rubberized Sealant
The sealant is a blend of asphalt and rubber polymer, heated in a kettle and applied hot through a wand or pour pot. It flows into the crack, bonds to the walls and stays flexible after it cools. Cold pour products in a jug or caulk tube do not bond as well, do not stretch as far and rarely last more than a season here.
Overbanding and Finishing
Where a crack is not routed, we overband it, leaving a thin strip an inch or two wide over the crack to seal the edges. The sealant is then sanded or dusted so it does not track on tires and shoes while it cools.
03Why Hot Pour Sealant Is the Right Choice for Central Texas
The problem with crack sealing here is not cold. It is movement. A crack over expansive clay might open a quarter inch wider between a wet March and a dry September. Whatever goes into that crack has to stretch that far, then compress back, year after year, while sitting in 140 degree surface heat.
Hot pour rubberized sealant is built for that. It stays pliable in summer, it does not soften and track out of the crack, and it bonds to the crack walls well enough to move with them instead of pulling away. Applied into a routed reservoir, it will typically outlast the sealcoat above it. That is why we crack seal before every driveway or commercial lot sealcoat, and why we recommend it as a standalone service in the years when a full sealcoat is not due.
Our Crack Sealing Process
When Crack Filling Is Not Enough
Crack sealing is the right fix for a crack. It is the wrong fix for a failure. Here is how we decide.
| What you see | What it means | Right repair |
|---|---|---|
| Single cracks under 1 inch wide, edges still level | Surface or shrinkage crack, base is sound | Route and seal |
| Cracks over 1 inch wide, or edges at different heights | Base or subgrade has moved | Cut and patch, then seal the surrounding cracks |
| Alligator cracking in wheel paths | Base failure, usually from water | Remove and replace full depth, fix the drainage |
| Fine grey silt pumping out of a crack after rain | Water is moving through the base | Patch full depth, check grading |
| Cracks every few feet across the whole surface | Pavement is oxidized and brittle | Seal now, plan for resurfacing |
| Crumbling edge with a settled shoulder | Clay shrinkage at the edge, no support | Rebuild the edge, patch, seal |
We will tell you which row you are in. A shop owner in Georgetown has had us back over several years for exactly this: sealing what can be sealed, patching what cannot, and keeping the lot out of the replacement column.

Crack Filling & Repair in Georgetown: your questions answered
How long does hot pour crack sealant last?
Three to five years is typical on a routed crack in Georgetown, and longer when a sealcoat goes over it and protects it from the sun. Unrouted overband seals last a bit less. Cracks over expansive clay that keep widening every drought may need touching up sooner, which is why our maintenance plans include a crack sealing pass every year or two.
Can I drive on the sealant right away?
Yes, within an hour or so in most weather. We sand or dust the fresh sealant so it does not stick to tires and shoes while it finishes cooling. Avoid turning the wheel while parked on it the first day. If a sealcoat is going over the crack sealing, we wait about 24 hours between the two.
Why not use the crack filler from the hardware store?
Store-bought filler is cold pour. It is applied straight from a jug or tube, does not bond to the crack walls the way hot material does, and cannot stretch when the crack opens in August. It usually shrinks, cracks or falls out within a season. Hot pour sealant is melted in a kettle and applied at several hundred degrees, which is why it lasts.
Will the crack sealant show through my sealcoat?
Slightly. Sealant is smooth and black while the sealcoat has a sandy texture, so a sealed crack shows as a faint, slightly glossy line for the first few months. It fades as the surface weathers. Routed cracks show less than overbanded ones because the material sits flush. What you will not see is the crack reopening.
Do you repair cracks in concrete driveways?
Hot pour sealant is made for asphalt, and our crack repair pages cover asphalt surfaces. Concrete cracks, spalling and broken joints are a different repair, and we handle those through our concrete contractor service. If your property has both, we will scope each one separately on the same estimate.
